Planning to build a swimming pool in New York?  Pool design has come a long way since the early days when the choice was between a plain rectangle or a pear!  When planning your swimming pool consult several pool builders, look at work they have done and think about your own needs, style and budget. 

The Ultimate: Concrete (Gunite, or injected concrete-like material, is usually used now) pools offer the widest variety of customization.  They can be finished in a wide range of materials, tile, painting, pebbles, textures, etc. Also, they are perfect when you want to include waterfalls, steps, unusual designs and shapes.  Of course you will pay a premium for the custom made concrete designs.  In addition, construction can take three to four months.
    Less expensive and faster to build are vinyl Liner Pools.  These consist of a reinforced in ground skeleton  placed in the dug hole.  A vinyl liner is placed inside the stronger structure.  The liners are prefabricated in a variety of shapes, sizes and designs.
     The fastest in ground pool construction is done with fiberglass pools.  Dig the hole and place the entire prefabricated fiberglass pool inside. 

High end above ground pools are a very real option for those who have had their sights set on an in ground pool.  They can be installed by a contractor or by the do-it-yourself family.  Decks and landscaping can be added so the pool blends with the yard and especially lovely effects can be designed where a yard is irregular or slanted.
